Gut microflora
The image looks complicated, but it shows that microflora in our guts may fit into one of three distinct groups.
An international team of researchers reported in Nature that types of gut microbiota (called enterotypes) can be classified into three large, clearly distinguishable groups: Bacteroides, Prevotella and Ruminococcus.
The finding may help explain why individuals respond differently to various nutrients and diets, said the researchers.
