Omega-3: New players, new research
July was a good month for long chain omega-3 fatty acids, with the arrival of a new player on the scene – Arizona-based Algae Biosciences (click here) - and the publication of new research suggesting that increased blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids from plant or marine sources was associated with reduced risk of type-2 diabetes (click here).
Meanwhile, a new rat study published in the Journal of Gerontology: Biological Science, suggested that supplements of omega-3 fatty acids for brain and heart health may need to be provided early in life to produce any benefits. Click here.
Finally, a review from Australia of the scientific literature argued that omega-3 fatty acids offered a ‘scientifically supported means of reducing arterial stiffness’. Click here.
