Studies question supplements
Supplements dominated the headlines earlier this month for the wrong reasons. The Archives of Internal Medicine published results of the Iowa Women's Health Study suggested that certain supplements may increase a post-menopausal woman's mortality risk.
The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) followed this with results from the SELECT Study, which suggested that vitamin E supplements may increase a man's risk of prostate cancer.
Consumer confidence in supplements appeared unfazed, with Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, and Sam's Club all reporting no impact on sales.
