Human nutrition business born from animal health firm

The company plans to apply its experience in animal nutritional research and innovation to developing a portfolio of specialty and functional ingredients that target business-to-business manufacturers of foods, beverages and dietary supplements in North America and Europe.

The portfolio will include branded, value-added ingredients for human health applications, selecting from both internally cultivated ingredient systems and technology partnerships with third parties to bring innovative, safe and trusted new ingredients to the marketplace.

Digestive inflammation​

Stratum’s director Jeremy Moore said: "Many of the challenges faced in animal health and nutrition are similar to the challenges we face as humans. For instance, increasing bone strength, controlling digestive inflammation, reducing joint related lameness and building lean muscle mass are areas Novus has been very successful in helping customers with for many years. ​

“Because these same types of issues are of relevance to humans, it makes sense for Stratum to bring the Novus nutritional solutions-based business approach closer to the final consumer where a direct impact can be made on human health,”​ he added.

All the company’s branded ingredients will share a common research and development philosophy, said the company. This will include: Unique and/or patented technologies, solid intellectual property portfolio, strong scientific and clinical research base, and progressive product applications for franchise human health categories such as immune health, bone health, joint health, weight management and healthy aging.

The company says that as a global leader in animal agriculture health and nutrition, Novus International has been playing an active but behind-the-scenes role in human nutrition since inception in 1991.
