Rousselot has acquired a range of hydrolyzed collagens from BHJ
Peptan Products to widen its offerings in this area and establish
itself as number one in the European market for gelatin and
hydrolysed collagens.

The France-based subsidiary of Vion confirmed that the deal was completed on July 8 and the newly acquired ingredients range is already integrated into their existing hydrolysed collagens range. The complete range will be unveiled at HIE 2008. "The acquisition of this range is in keeping with our external growth strategy aimed at rapidly strengthening our position in our targeted growth markets," said Laurent Weber, Rousselot's vice-president for sales and marketing. "The Peptan range complements our existing product range, enabling us to offer new grades of collagen to the nutrition, health and beauty sectors." Food and beverage applications In the nutritional sector, hydrolyzed collagen may be added to protein beverages, bars and health foods. Talking to NutraIngredients.com, Caroline Brochard-Garnier, Rousselot's communication manager said: "In Europe, the market can be found in the nutritional and beauty sectors: hydrolyzed collagens are known to be good for bone, joint and skin health. As pure proteins bringing satiety effect, they can also be used within weight management programs.""In Europe, we can witness growing needs for nutricosmetics," she added. "This trend emerged in Asia a few years ago and is now seriously watched by most of European nutricosmeceutical companies."Markets Brochard-Garnier confirmed that the food and beverage markets were bigger for hydrolysed collagens than cosmetics. The ingredients do have cosmetic applications, however, including tackling the signs of skin aging and improving moisture levels in the skin. In hair care applications, hydrolyzed collagens may also be used to strengthen hair structure through polymer cross-linking.
