The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) opens its annual meeting on Saturday, with those attending this year invited to also visit the IUFoST's World Congress of Food Science and Technology.
The congress, which aims to support exchange of information among international scientists, food technologists and specialists, will work around the theme 'Feeding the World...Opportunities without Boundaries'. Lectures and related discussion sections, symposia, round table discussions and poster sessions will all be accessible to those attending the IFT meeting and food expo, running July 16-20.
This year's Food Expo will include an International Pavilion to meet the demands of increasing international attendees and a Healthy Foods Pavilion featuring nutraceutical, functional and organic foods.
On the exhibitor floor, Cargill will be displaying its product concepts, including the Bone Appetit functional tea, while Acatris USA is launching a new antioxidant range. TIC Gums is also showing some functional food applications with samples of fortified smoothies and single-serve oatmeal packets at their booth.
Flavors firm Blue Pacific, which last year opened its Functional Beverage Research Center in Industry, California, will feature an exotic range of Asian and Latin influenced tropical fruit flavors such as Natural Red and White Guava, Kumquat, Tamarind, Jamaica and Soursop flavors in several carbonated and RTD beverage applications.
Functional ingredients maker Taiyo is introducing Camellia Ex, a green tea rich in the amino acid L-Theanine, for use in foods and beverages. For the food technologists, ColorTec is launching the nutrient version of its Formulator Windows Software that allows scientists to create and modify food products, develop and document Quality Control test procedures and archive test results when bench piloting new formulas.
The 'Opening Mixer' takes place on Saturday from 8:30 - 10:30 pm on the open air Lakeside Terrace at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center, following the Opening Event. Tickets for the IFT Party, on Tuesday evening, July 15 at Navy Pier, are included with registration.
