NutraCast Podcast: Dr. Ivan Petyaev on female fertility support
Cambridge Diagnostic Imaging (CaDi) just launched Lycofertilic daily supplements for fertility support as well as Lycofertilic Prime to prepare for egg retrieval and IVF.
The targeted supplements, developed by Lycotec, are made with algae DHA omega-3 to provide anti-ageing support for the ovarian reserve.
Lycotec’s founder and CEO Dr. Ivan Petyaev joined the NutraCast and explained the selection process behind the ingredients. “We know that omega-3 is beneficial to control inflammation in the body, but in ovaries in particular. It also improves quality of egg and improves health of follicles and the reproductive system. But apart from omega-3, we have two other ingredients. They are also very important, but the other ingredients are carotenoids and these carotenoids have good oxygenation. This group of ingredients, one controls inflammation and one oxygenation. We think it's the best formula to support fertility. One is lutein and the other is a cousin of lutein, zeaxanthin. They work best in combination and we created a complex of these two carotenoids, lutein, zeaxanthin with DHA omega-3. Omega-3 is not from fish or from krill, it’s from algae.”
But ingredients are only as efficacious as their formulation allows.
“In the shop, it’s difficult to personalize on a shelf,” explained Petaev. He said that a users must first complete a questionnaire with specific questions about age, weight, and health history. From there, an algorithm determines the appropriate dosage and adjusts the formulation accordingly.
“For me, this personalization as a doctor, I think makes sense and it makes it more effective.”
