Kyowa Hakko continues LATAM expansion with Mexico launch

Kyowa Hakko has partnered with Mexican manufacturer Quifaest to broaden the reach of its Immuse postbiotic for immune support.

“Consumers around the globe are looking for new opportunities to elevate their immune health to ensure that they can power through their days feeling their best,” said Karen Todd, vice president of global brand marketing at Kyowa Hakko USA. “The Mexican dietary supplement market is one of the largest in Latin America and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.5% from 2020 to 2025.”

The Mexico launch is part of the company’s wider Latin America expansion strategy, which Todd said revolves around introducing innovative and science backed ingredients that cater to the health and wellness needs of the region.

Available in the U.S., Canada and Europe, Immuse enters the Mexican market in Quifaest’s Immo Forte product with claims of improved digestion, immunity, insulin response and brain health.

“I am so glad to announce that Immuse is now available in Mexico,” said Marciano Mateos, CEO at Quifaest Group. “Our corporate mission has found a perfect match with Kyowa. This is a great partnership that will promote dietary supplements that are manufactured with very high-quality ingredients supported by science.” 

According to 30 published studies, including 15 human trials, Immuse’s Lactococcus lactis​ strain Plasma (LC-Plasma) activates the immune system through the plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs). The pDCs, a rare type of immune cell, have been shown to activate Natural Killer T, Helper T and B cells for comprehensive immune support.

Immo Forte will be sold at QuifaHealth stores in malls throughout the Mexico City area, with additional distribution forthcoming.

Dynamic growth opportunity

Todd also referenced the opportunity in the broader Latin American dietary supplement market, which she said is experiencing dynamic growth, driven by factors including increasing health awareness among consumers and rising demand for natural and organic products.

Earlier this year, Kyowa Hakko’s Setria Glutathione antioxidant ingredient received health approval in Brazil​, the first glutathione to be authorized for use in dietary supplements and functional foods in the country. According to market research firm Grand View Research, regulatory approvals such as this are expected to fuel the demand for supplements in a market forecast to expand at a CAGR of 8% from 2023 to 2030​. 

Todd called the approval a significant step in the Latin American market, adding that Brazil, as one of its largest economies, is crucial for establishing Kyowa’s brand presence in the region.

“As for Immuse and other ingredients, we are actively evaluating opportunities and regulatory pathways in various LATAM countries,” she said. “We are committed to broadening our footprint in the region, ensuring that more consumers have access to our premium quality products.”

Immuse received this year's NutraIngredients-USA award​ for Ingredient of the year in the Microbiome Modulation category.
