Personalized vitamin company scores $9.5M investment
The company also serves as a contract packager and customer fulfillment operation.

OK Capsule, which formulates, sells and delivers personalized supplements, announced the $9.5M investment which will help jumpstart the business.

The company’s founder, Andrew Brandeis, ND, said the new funds will go toward scaling the business, enhancing its facilities, improving technology and growing the team.

The initial investments were led by Mucker Capital and Next Ventures, and supported by DSM Venturing and Findaway Adventures. Brandeis said finding investors was a matter of leveraging relationships to get in front of the right people.

“I highly respect Robert Craven and worked with him when he was CEO at MegaFood and I was an ‘entrepreneur in residence’ at his company. Mucker understood the concept from the beginning—they get it. Next Ventures is very focused on human potential and we connected well on what we are trying to do for wellbeing. DSM Venturing is always looking at personalization and innovation and Gregory McParland and his team were on board with the OK Capsule mission and infrastructure.”

Tech

Brandeis explained that one key differentiator is that OK Capsule has an approved Shopify app, making it easy for any Shopify store to quickly and safely start selling personalized supplements to their customers.

“We developed proprietary technology on top of the salesforce platform. We have an API that allows for simple integration to our platform, as well as a turnkey Shopify app that makes onboard and scaling for companies simple. Our platform integrates with our client’s e-commerce infrastructure to provide a seamless experience for their customers – from discovery to branding to personalized fulfillment,” he said. “We provide white-label technology for our clients to offer personalization tools to their customers. We are also the only contract packager that enables businesses to sell individualized supplements under their own brand, with low minimum order quantities. This is difficult to find elsewhere.”

How it works

“There are 3 types of customers: those who know what to take and want to configure their own pack, those who don’t know what to take and want a vitamin quiz to tell them, and those who want a simple solution for a single issue. OK Capsule has technology to enable all three of these experiences for the end consumer,” explained Brandeis.

The doctor-founded company offers a white-label product configurator that clients can add to their website with minimal integration, along with a custom vitamin quiz solution that is white labeled for the client site, as well as solution-focused  packs such as a gut pack, sleep pack and energy pack.

Getting personal quickly

Another set apart is the company has the ability to produce personalized supplement packets on demand with a 24-hour turnaround with low minimums.

“Most others have 4-6 week lead times and high minimum order quantities in bottles. We are also extremely focused on our planet, and offer compostable packaging. The most common feedback we get from customers is that once they experience personalized nutrition, they never go back to one-size-fits-all bottles,” said Brandeis. “We aim to have more consumers experience this.”

Launched in the Spring of 2020, OK Capsule has worked with several companies to scale quickly such as Vitality RX, ELO Health, Vitagene and Easy Vitamin Plan, which recently launched on Walmart.com.
