NutraWomen Wednesday: Arielle Levitan, MD & Romy Block, MD, co-founders of Vous Vitamin
Arielle Levitan, MD, is an internal medicine physician and Romy Block, MD is an endocrinologist. Together, the duo co-founded the Chicago-based company.
Levitan said it’s important for supplements to reflect where women are in their various life stages.
“We do we factor all of that in because those are all things that are relevant to your vitamin needs. Women of childbearing age tend to need more iron because you lose lots of iron through having periods or having pregnancies and breastfeeding. These are all sources of iron loss, so that's something we factor in but that being said, women even later in life sometimes need iron and women at different stages do need different things depending on their stage of life,” said Levitan. “These are all things that get factored in and reasons why personalization is so important.”
In addition to Vous Vitamin and practicing medicine, the co-founders are married to physicians and have three children each.
“It takes a busy person to get things done and when you're passionate about things and we're certainly passionate about vitamins and health and our families and our children and so it makes it a really exciting venture,” said Block.
“And we're fortunate to have supportive husbands who have been big champions of our ideas from day one,” added Levitan.
