The term inflammation typically brings up images of painful swelling; and if inflammation occurs around a joint, there is usually a loss of flexibility and range of motion as well.  However, inflammation is not necessarily a bad thing.  It is the immune system’s way of isolating damaged tissue so healing can occur; and ideally, once the self-healing mechanisms are in place, inflammation naturally subsides.  Unfortunately, that is not always the case and inflammation persists.
