A randomized, double-blind crossover study investigated metabolic adaptogen properties of abscisic acid (ABA), a novel naturally occurring compound. Test food was a fig fruit extract (ABAlife®) standardized for two ABA concentrations. Post prandial glucose and insulin responses were tested in 10 healthy participants. Results indicate ABAlife®, in relatively small doses (100-200mg), can produce significant and clinically relevant reductions in postprandial glucose and insulin responses and may be a promising ingredient for natural management of glucose homeostasis and metabolic disorders.
