Unigen Inc. is launching two new botanical ingredients at the upcoming Expo West in Anaheim, one is positioned for respiratory health, the other for immune support.

The respiratory health ingredient is called Attenutin and contains two different types of bioflavonoids that reportedly support innate and adaptive immunity while supporting antibody IgA & IgG productions and a healthy level of cytokines.

The ingredient is derived from roots of Scutellaria baicalensis and heartwood of Acacia catechu. The ingredient may also increase the levels of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), suggesting antioxidant activity, according to a release from the company. Attenutin is suitable for short term usage such as with Vitamin C and Zinc during immune-stressing seasons, added Unigen.

The second ingredient is branded Symetrian and is described by the company as a standardized, aloe-based composition for healthy immune homeostasis. It is derived from Aloe vera leaf gel powder, Poria cocos sclerotium extract, and rosemary leaf extracts. Unigen claims that the ingredient promotes production of circulating Gamma delta T cells, suggesting its heightened immune surveillance at portals of entry.

“We are very excited to expand our profile at this time with these two ingredients,” said Dr. Qi Jia, Unigen CEO and CSO. “Since early 2020, Unigen shifted its R&D focus to immune and respiratory health. We evaluated hundreds of bioflavonoids in our PhytoLogix library and historic data on maintaining a healthy level of an alarmin protein called HMGB1 that is proven to support and protect the immune function of the respiratory system.”

Commenting on the studies, Unigen CEO Qi Jia told us: "The abstract has been submitted to the annual meeting of American Society of Nutrition in June; acceptance is pending early March.  KGK is working on the manuscript for peer-reviewed publications on Attenutin and Symetria."
