Botanical specialist Sabinsa launches first protein ingredient Promond

Jumping on the protein bandwagon, botanical ingredient maker Sabinsa launches almond-based protein powder Promond, its first protein powder ingredient.

The new ingredient will debut this week at the SupplySide West show in Las Vegas. With almond powder as Sabinsa’s first foray into the protein category, the new ingredient is in tune with the company’s strong botanical background.

“Those concerned about almonds grown in California because of heavy water use in drought conditions won’t have to worry—Promond is made from almonds sourced in northern India,” the company announced in a press release.

The launch puts Sabinsa squarely in the burgeoning plant protein space. The ‘plant protein’ call-out thrived at finished product trade shows like Expo West, and manufacturers like Nellson, which makes both protein powders and bars, report substantial increase in demand for plant-derived proteins compared to dairy.

Sabinsa’s new Promond ingredient is water-soluble and sourced from a variety of Indian almonds with a complete amino acid profile. More details about the ingredient and its sourcing will be unveiled at the show. The company will be at booth DD 153 at SupplySide West, which goes from Sept. 25 to 29, 2017 at the Mandalay Bay Expo Hall in Las Vegas.
