New age drinks maker XStream Beverage Group has launched a new energy drink in South Florida, with plans to extend the product in the near future.

Yohimbe Energy Drink is made from the bark of the West African Corynanthe Yohimbe tree. Yohimbe has muscle-building and mood-enhancing qualities, according to the company, and has been used for centuries to enlarge blood vessels. While used mostly by bodybuilders, recent studies show yohimbe to be effective in reducing anxiety and depression and enhancing mental activity, Xstream says.

"For XStream's first original energy drink, we wanted to develop a functional beverage that would enhance well being, aid in muscle recovery and truly energize - all without relying on harsh stimulants," said Ted Farnsworth, chairman and founder of XStream Beverage Group.

The energy drink is geared toward an 18-35 year-old demographic. It also contains vitamins B-12, B-6 and the amino acid taurine.

The packaging features the brand personality Johimbe, and slogans, 'Preserve the Wild Life' and 'Put the FUN in Functionality.'

The company is hoping to appeal to growing demand for 'natural' beverages. The energy drink category is estimated to be worth $1.5 billion in annual sales.
