Obviously, the criteria are slightly different for each category, but overall we can break it down four ways:
1) Can you show us that there is a genuine consumer demand?
2) Do you have solid scientific evidence to demonstrate a unique nutritional solution to this need or problem?
3) Can you also demonstrate commercial success and engagement from your core target market(s)?
4) What gives your entry the ‘X factor’? What makes it stand out from the crowd?
It is important to note that for the ingredient and finished consumer product categories your entry doesn’t have to be something new. We’ve recognized established ingredients and products in the past, but those entries have displayed how the previous 12 months have been special: Perhaps a new study or studies were published that significantly advanced our understanding or opened up new commercial positioning for the ingredient or product. Or maybe the ingredient or product had a stellar year with consumers and broke sales records.
For the other categories like nutrition research project and personalized nutrition initiative, the criteria are similar but obviously science is totally central to these categories.
