Michelle Obama takes ‘moderate’ approach to diet

American women are looking to Michelle Obama for tips on diet and fitness, as the first lady grabs the spotlight as an icon of health.

The most recent media frenzy follows a report in the October issue of Women’s Health​ magazine, based on an interview with Mrs Obama on how she stays in shape.

Amongst the tips provided by the first lady and now being lapped up by American ladies is a ‘moderate’ approach to diet.

This includes following a 90/10 rule, which means eating healthy 90 percent of the time and snacking on her favorite foods 10 percent of the time.

“She’s not radical about it, she’s moderate. She just wants to make good choices the majority of the time and then indulge every once in a while,”​ the editor of Women’s Health ​told the Today ​program.
