American Casein Company (AMCO), a manufacturer of milk protein isolates, has reported a significant increase in the demand for its milk protein isolate (CMP-221) in recent months.

Demand for proteins is increasing as the supplement sector and especially sports nutrition products grows. Milk protein isolates are thought to offer some of the benefits of whey protein, a component of milk protein isolates, as well as being an excellent source of calcium. They also contain casein and whey ratios that are very similar to those present in natural milk.

While whey protein isolates have been used for several years, milk protein isolates have only become available through recent technological innovations, bringing them into competition with other proteins such as soy.

Generally used to manufacture health and nutritional products Clifford E. Lang, Jr, general sales manager at AMCO, said that the spray drying process it uses to manufacture the high-protein ingredient was responsible for the "clean, milk-like flavor, good dispersibility, and excellent solubility and functional properties" of its product.

Based in Burlington, New Jersey, the privately owned company provides powder protein ingredients to the health, beverage, food, and personal care industries.
