Kosher go ahead for Carrington
its freeze-dried nutraceutical ingredient Manapol, produced at its
Costa Rica production plant. The award not only opens up sales to
the Orthodox Jewish market, but also means Manapol is suitable for
vegetarian and lactose-free products.
Carrington Laboratories has announced that its freeze-dried Manapol nutraceutical material produced and packaged in Carrington's Costa Rica facilities has been certified to be Kosher Parve, meaning it meets exacting standards for cleanliness of facilities and for production and packaging processes, and is free of any meat, foul or dairy products or byproducts.
"We sought this certification to meet the needs of existing customers as well as to expand potential markets for Manapol and Manapol-based products," said Walt Jones, president of Caraloe, Carrington's consumer products subsidiary.
"In addition to the obvious religious implications under Orthodox Jewish law, Kosher Parve certification assures all users - including vegetarians and lactose intolerant people - that Manapol is of the highest quality.
"In order to maintain this certification, our Costa Rica facilities undergo quarterly inspections of all associated products, packaging, manufacturing procedures, machinery and cleanliness. These inspections frequently are conducted to standards even more stringent than those of the Food and Drug Administration."
Rabbi Gershon Miletski, chief rabbi of the Orthodox Costa Rican Community, awarded the Kosher Parve certification to Carrington and will continue to monitor production to ensure ongoing compliance.
Manapol Powder is a product protected by patents in more than 26 countries and carries the DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994) claim that it enhances the immune system. "Additionally," Jones added, "along with a proper nutrition and exercise program, it may help maintain healthy cholesterol levels and act as a digestive aid."
The product's major end markets include nutritional beverages, dietary supplements, and nutraceuticals.
