The Thai government announces a plan to boost the quality and
quantity of herbs produced by the nation.

Thailand's state agencies are working with private industry to develop and promote the country's herbal products in a bid to push the country's herbs in the world market, reports Xinhuanet.

The Thai Deputy Prime Minister Pongpol Adireksan recently chaired the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement among seven organisations to integrate herbal product development and promotion.

Thongchai Thavichachart, managing director of the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO), said Thailand's herbal products are famous in both domestic and overseas markets but they lack integrated and continued development, which has caused problems, particularly in the marketing.

He said cooperation would help promote the integrated development of herbal products, which would enable the farmers to expand production of herbal plants while the producers would have good quality raw materials at lower prices. This would help Thai products compete with foreign products.

Thailand's Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) will support the capital and distribution of products to domestic and international markets, according to the report.

The Forest Industry Organisation is to supply the manufacturers and farmers with high quality raw materials and suggest ways of planting herbs effectively, it added.
