Brassica is an innovator in the research and development of nutritional ingredients derived from cruciferous vegetables, specifically broccoli. Broccoli is a rich source of glucoraphanin, the most potent naturally occurring inducer of phase 2 detoxification enzymes – the body’s natural defense system. Brassica extracts its glucoraphanin from broccoli seeds where it is more concentrated than in sprouts or adult broccoli, using a hot water process. The Company markets & sells its truebroc™ brand of glucoraphanin (formerly SGS™) for use in dietary supplements, functional foods and beverages. Brassica also manufactures and sells gourmet Chinese Sencha green teas & black teas containing truebroc, under the Brassica® Tea brand.
Glucoraphanin is an indirect antioxidant and a precursor to sulforaphane, its active form. While glucoraphanin naturally exists in broccoli, it must be converted to sulforaphane to convey its benefits. This conversion occurs either by the enzyme myrosinase which is also found in broccoli or by the body's gut microflora.
truebroc brand of glucoraphanin boosts the body’s natural defenses against free radicals & oxidative stress caused by pollutants and toxins. These boosted detox enzymes remain active in the body for up to 72 hours compared to direct antioxidants such as vitamin C that only last up to 3 hours.
Brassica is the exclusive licensee of patents and technology from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine relating to glucosinolates and isothiocyanates.
