Personalized nutrition has been the Holy Grail of nutrition science.  Dilip Ghosh, PhD, tells how the industry is getting closer to delivering on the promises that this approach implies.

Ghosh, who is founder and director of Syndey, Australia-based consultancy NutriConnect, says the personalized nutrition sphere is being driven by strong science results, building upon the information delivered by the publication of the Human Genome Project data in 2004.

Personalized nutrition in this case does not relate to the individual, but to the characteristics of given populations. "We found there are so many pandemic diseases, like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, all of this related to the food.  In most cases the pharmaceuticals are not working for that.  So there is a tremendous opportunity in this area to developed personalized nutrition for personalized food," Ghosh said.
