Colorado-based nutraceuticals company NutraStar said this week it has been awarded a US patent (No. 10/012270) for its natural treatment for inflammation and pain in mammals.

NutraStar's novel anti-inflammatory formulations are made from stabilized rice bran complexes. The formula is marketed in the Absorbine Flex+ line, the Absorbine Jr. line and NutraFlex range, designed to reduce pain around the joints and improve mobility in humans, and other mammals, such as horses, dogs and cats.

Variations of the formulation have also been developed into products such as powdered drinks, capsules, topical creams, nutritional bars and food supplements. The company claims its products could benefit millions of people suffering from joint pain, inflammation and arthritic conditions.

A clinical trial on horses, conducted by the company along with W. F. Young, which makes the Absorbine range of equine products, found the formula to be effective, said NutraStar. The company also markets its formula to protect against diabetes.
