California-based Nutralliance has announced an exclusive sales and distribution agreement with Eastern Europe nutraceuticals specialist Globionic, with the larch-derived Lavitol dihydroquercetin the first ingredient to be available via the agreement.

Globionic was founded to locate unique and wild-sourced ingredients from Eastern Europe companies and bring their products to the USA or expand their business if there is already a presence here, explained Bill Knudson, Globionic president and CEO.

“There is an abundance of unique resources specific to this region. Many ingredient suppliers there, however, tend to lack the understanding of how to successfully market their researched ingredients in the US,” he said.

“There are numerous cultural, language, transportation and financing hurdles that hinder their expansion in North America, and Globionic was created to bridge those issues.”.

The first ingredient to be marketed exclusively in North America by Nutralliance is Lavitol dihydroquercetin (Lavitol DHQ). Globionic obtained the exclusive sales rights for the ingredient from Siberia-based Ametis Corp.

The ingredient

Lavitol DHQ is derived from the Dahurian Larch (Larix gmelinii).

The Dahurian Larch tree grows in Siberia and is the northern most tree found in the world. It can reportedly survive at temperatures up to –97 °C (-142 °F). This ability to survive at such extraordinary low temperatures was one of many reasons behind interest in the chemistry and bioactivities of this species of Dahurian larch trees, in addition to its potent antioxidant scavenging capacities.

The ingredient has been shown to support cardiovascular, respiratory immune, eye/vision, skin, liver and endocrine health, added Nutralliance.

The safety of the ingredient for consumption as a supplement is supported by a paper published in 2015 in the International Journal of Toxicology.

Ametis extracts Lavitol DHQ via a patented technology from larch tree stumps left behind from wood industry harvesting.

Lavitol is produced year-round with an annual production of 13 tons of finished material in a state-of-the-art, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000-2005, and HACCP-compliant facility, said Nutraalliance.

“Lavitol DHQ will provide brands with a heavily researched and unique ingredient for a wide range of applications and consumer needs,” said Nutralliance CEO Brian Salerno.Salerno. “And this is just one of many similar quality ingredients to come from Globionic, a company that itself has a unique position in the supply-side arena.”
