Magnesium
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued a positive opinion on magnesium in 2009 for the maintenance of normal bone, teeth, and protein synthesis – as well as the reduction of tiredness and fatigue; electrolyte balance; normal energy-yielding metabolism; neurotransmission and muscle contraction.
Meanwhile, the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) advises that: “Taking high doses of magnesium (more than 400mg) for a short time can cause diarrhoea. There is not enough evidence to say what the effects might be of taking high doses of magnesium for a long time.”
