Take a walk on the wild side…
Herbalist & Alchemist founder and ethnobotanist David Winston uses a process called spagyric alchemy to ensure he gets a full spectrum extract for plants such as nettles and raspberry leaves.
The plant material or ‘marc’ remaining after an extract has been pressed out is burned and reduced to a white, mineral-rich ash, which is then added back to the extract.
Winston, an expert in Cherokee, Chinese and Western herbal traditions with more than 30 years of clinical practice under his belt, hit the headlines last year with his Gentle Man formula.
A combination of oat milky seed, black cohosh root, saw palmetto berry, ashwagandha root, mimosa bark and pulsatilla herb for supporting mature men’s emotional balance (or as Winston describes it, tackling “grumpy old man” syndrome), the product targets men going through the andropause.
Next on the agenda are more encapsulated products as “not everybody wants a tincture”, says Winston, who works with 600-700 herbs on a regular basis.
