Ireland-based botanical supplement company Phytaphix has launched an ‘all-in-one’ fertility product designed to support reproductive health in both men and women.

Fertility Phix contains 27 key ingredients—including a mix of vitamins, minerals and probiotics—with each carefully selected based on the latest clinical evidence, according to Dr. Conor Kerley, founder and chief scientific officer at Phytaphix.

“The ingredients in Fertility Phix were chosen based on scientific evidence from human research trials reporting benefits such as improved sperm quality, improved egg quality and improved uterine environment,” he told NutraIngredients.

“Some brands focus on one or two hero ingredients while Fertility Phix contains 27, with each ingredient in the dose and format documented to benefit fertility.”

The rise of infertility

Fertility issues are common, affecting around one in six people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that infertility rates are rising due to a combination of factors, including increasing maternal age, lifestyle choices and environmental exposure.

This is driving continued growth within the fertility supplement market, which is projected to increase from $2.32 billion in 2024 to $5.68 billion by 2034, according to Towards Healthcare.

Reproductive challenges can be caused by a number of factors, according to Dr. Kerley, who is a member of the European Fertility Society, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, and the International Institute for Restorative Reproductive Medicine.

“Fertility issues are complicated and multi-factorial, but regardless of any underlying condition, contributors to fertility issues include abnormalities with cell division, DNA synthesis, hormone regulation, thyroid function, inflammation, immune function, homocysteine metabolism and oxidative stress,” he explained.

Fertility Phix is designed to target these issues by contributing to normal cell division and DNA synthesis and offering protection from inflammation and oxidative stress.

Assessing the evidence

The key ingredients in Fertility Phix include alpha lipoic acid, L-arginine, lutein, zeaxanthin, choline and coenzyme Q10, many of which are very difficult or impossible to get from diet alone, according to Kerley.

The powdered raspberry-flavored formulation also includes methylated folate and vitamins D3, B2, B6 and B12, as well as zinc, iodine, selenium and chromium.

A number of randomized, controlled trials and meta-analyses have demonstrated the benefits of these ingredients. For example, one large meta-analysis found that coenzyme Q10 supplementation may increase pregnancy rates, while another focusing on alpha lipoic acid found that this nutrient may support fertilization and embryo development.

Dr. Kerley highlights that this combination of ingredients at specific doses gives Fertility Phix a unique edge, providing an ‘all-in-one’ solution which can benefit both sexes simultaneously.

“Fertility Phix contains every single nutrient documented in human research trials to improve fertility outcomes in a single product,” he said. “[It] acts as an all-in-one based on the best human research to date.”
