Launched with the tagline ‘No gimmicks—just real science’, Control is designed to naturally support GLP-1 levels, reduce cravings and boost metabolism in women navigating the metabolic challenges of midlife from peri to post menopause.
The supplement contains clinically studied ingredients including Eriomin (a lemon bioflavonoid complex) and Siliphos (milk thistle extract) which provide support for vital organs such as the liver and thyroid.
This sets Control apart from its competitors, according to Alexander Pilawski, innovation manager and nutrition scientist at Elénzia, who says the supplement offers a “systemic approach” to supporting the body’s natural drive to balance glycemia.
“Control enters the market at a time where harnessing glycemic management as a tool for weight loss and metabolic health is at an all-time high,” he told NutraIngredients. “As the market becomes more and more saturated, it is important to provide distinguishing factors that carve out a niche.”
“At Elénzia, our ethos guides us to think holistically about the challenge at hand to provide a solution that is multifaceted and tailored to our demographic’s unique needs,” he added.
Supporting the liver and thyroid
Control joins the company’s existing range of supplements for menopause, cognition, joint health and immunity.
Pilawski described Eriomin as Elénzia’s hero ingredient, noting that its benefits have been demonstrated in three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human clinical trials.
“These studies, which involved over 170 prediabetic patients, provided some really compelling results [at a] low dose of only 200 mg/day,” he said. “After 12 weeks of supplementation, participants had significantly increased GLP-1 levels, as high as 22%.”
“The icing on the cake for me is the reduction in fasting blood glucose levels by 6.5%, and in one study, the reversal of prediabetes in 24% of participants without lifestyle changes. I can only imagine how potent this could be with dietary and exercise improvements,” he added.
Comparatively, Siliphos, a standardized silybin-phosphatidylcholine complex, protects and supports liver function by improving glutathione levels, enhancing antioxidant protection, supporting bile flow and optimizing fat metabolism.
“Liver health is crucial for countless metabolic processes, and it is a growing concern as we see the global prevalence of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) now affecting over a quarter of women worldwide,” Pilawski explained. “As there is a bi-directional relationship between liver health and glucose homeostasis, supporting liver health and function is critical, especially leading up to and throughout the menopausal experience where NAFLD risk is even greater.”
Control also contains a “highly bioavailable” mineral complex to support thyroid hormone synthesis, which is an “underappreciated concern amongst menopausal women,” according to Pilawski.
This complex includes iodine for thyroid hormone synthesis, selenium to support the conversion of T4 to active T3 hormones, and zinc for insulin and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) signalling and T3 receptor sensitivity.
A multi-faceted approach
Control is therefore presented as a multi-faceted approach to weight management, with each ingredient chosen to complement each other mechanistically.
“There are several mechanisms at play, but the core ones include potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities that enhance cellular insulin sensitivity,” Pilawski said. “Additionally, the stimulation of intestinal L-cells by these citrus flavonoids increases native GLP-1 production, a key player in glucose management. Our botanical ingredients also modulate the microbiome, promoting normoglycaemia over time.”
To test the effect of the combination of ingredients used in Control, Elénzia is currently conducting a pilot study which will serve as a basis for a full-scale lifestyle study, with results expected in the near future.
