The company behind Smart Water Coolers just launched Focus Blend, a functional enhancement that combines caffeine, L-theanine, magnesium and B vitamins for sharper focus. The offering was inspired by the growing focus crisis.

In order to dig deeper into the obstacles employees face when trying to focus at work, Bevi asked 1,000 employees across various U.S. industries about what helps—and what hurts—their ability to concentrate during the workday.

Key survey takeaways:

  • Social media and notifications overwhelm younger workers: 70% of Gen Z said social media derails them and 64% are pulled off-task by personal alerts— distraction levels far higher than any other group.
  • The news cycle keeps digital-first generations distracted: 62% of Gen Z and 57% of millennials said major news events derail them, while just 33% of Boomers find news distracting.
  • Workplace chatter distracts the Boomers most: 52% of Boomers said colleagues are their biggest distraction, the highest of any group.
  • Millennials feel it all: From social feeds to breaking news, this generation reports being pulled in every direction.

In order to help workers concentrate better, the water cooler giant just launched Focus Blend, a functional enhancement that combines caffeine, L-theanine, magnesium and B vitamins for sharper focus.

“We spend a lot of time talking to our customers on what they want,” said Cathy Lewenberg, CEO, Bevi.

“They really wanted to solve this problem of productivity, right? We choose ingredients that help users stay alert without feeling wired or face a crash that we all dread. Focus Blend uses low-dose natural caffeine from green coffee beans, L-theanine to smooth out the energy and support focus and then B vitamins and magnesium to support brain health.”

Lewenberg explained that the water cooler’s interface allows users to customize their water, with options on everything from CO2 to flavors to caffeine levels. The screen also features some education on the vitamins users can add in to enhance their water.

With about 46% of respondents reporting that they only somewhat understand how certain vitamins, minerals or nutrients in the food and beverages can impact their ability to focus at work, Lewenberg said consumer education is something they talk about a lot.

“We have vitamins and electrolytes as well,” she said. “People know these are good for them, but they don’t always connect that to their focus and their energy levels throughout the day, so we continue to test and experiment with clear messaging. How do we educate the manager, the office manager, so they can share this out to their employees? And so more to come as we continue to learn there, but it is something that we think is really, really important.”
