After studying public relations at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Miller pivoted from dreams of working in the fashion industry to the health and wellness industry.
“There’s a saying that health and wellness is always in style,” Miller said. “I think doing good on the inside shows on the outside. So maybe I am in fashion, but it’s just a different type of fashion than I thought I was going to be in.”
Her path wasn’t linear—starting with small accounts, she built her reputation through authentic connections and word-of-mouth referrals. What started off as a contract at Aker BioMarine in 2013 evolved into a full-time role by 2019, where she continues to facilitate connections between biotechnology researchers and consumers.
Miller’s philosophy centers on authenticity as the foundation of trust, proving that personal connections strengthen professional ties.
“I work with so many brilliant people everyday,” she said. “For me, being in this comms role specifically, I’m the facilitator between the brilliant people, bringing them together to help message and get these interviews together.
“I think it’s all about authenticity. I often feel that I am, whether it be within Aker BioMarine, at headquarters or at trade shows, I’m constantly interacting with so many different people and different journeys—and in order to have good relationships, you have to have trust. You have to be as natural and authentic as you possibly can and just show your true colors and find ways to connect with people. I always say in a room of 100 people, you should find at least one thing in common with every single person.”
Miller also highlighted the growing opportunities for women’s health, particularly around women-centric science and products addressing issues such as menopause.
“I wish I had a crystal ball,” she said. “I feel like we are tracking in a good direction. Women in Nutraceuticals (WIN) is really leading the charge…We’re seeing more science for women like women-centric science, which is opening up the doors for innovation and products specifically for women, by women.”
