“When we first started social media, we had no idea that this was going to happen, it was kind of just an outlet for us,” said Schweers.
“At the time, I was going through my MS diagnosis and there wasn’t really anyone I could talk to about it. So we started going live on TikTok and sharing our experiences and from there, it just grew as we started to want to start a family and we were going through our infertility struggles and our miscarriage, our ectopic pregnancy, our IVF journey and it made sense for us to continue sharing that with our community.”
Schweers said the online community that they have cultivated through their ‘Demi and Tom’ account on Tik Tok has become such an incredible support system and offered a wealth of knowledge amid various health challenges.
“The authenticity and vulnerability that Tom and I were able to share in our journey has encouraged others within our community and beyond to do the same in their lives,” she said. “I get messages every day of people sharing their personal journeys and their experiences, whether it’s with PCOS or IVF or miscarriage. It’s truly become a community of people who are supporting one another, uplifting one another and genuinely have love for one another.
After realizing so many other women were suffering many of the same health conditions as she was, Schweers started talking to a friend who owns a manufacturing plant about the gap in the market for women’s hormonal health.
“And that’s kind of how Iris blossomed,” she said. “We wanted something that was convenient, easy and simplified so that you could prioritize your health without driving yourself crazy with research and all the things that come with it.”
Iris Nutrition just launched its first offering, an electrolyte drink mix formulated with hormone balancing ingredients. Schweers explained Iris is the Greek goddess and messenger of rainbows, and she’s often seen as a symbol of hope and fertility.
“We have really big plans for Iris,” she said. “Right now we just have this one product line, but we do have goals and dreams of expanding so that we can help women throughout their whole hormonal journey.”
