Indiana-based Artemis International, Inc., has added new cranberry and elderberry ingredients to its portfolio alongside new antioxidant-rich berry blends.

Founded by Jan Mills in 1995, Artemis International is celebrating 30 years as a woman-owned company. While it is widely known for its berry-based nutraceutical ingredients, branded as Berryceuticals, the company has been expanding into other botanicals and mushrooms.

The rollout of the new extracts and blends, bringing the company’s portfolio to approximately 100 ingredients, comes amid growing consumer demand for products with a ‘better for you’ halo, Artemis shared in a press release.

“The Artemis science and innovation team has been very busy working on new product offerings to meet the booming customer demand for high-quality, science-proven ingredients,” said Leslie Gallo, president of Artemis International.

“As we move into and beyond our 30 years in business, our focus will continue to be refining our popular legacy berry-based ingredients, as well as listening closely to the needs of our customers to help lead innovation and new formulation development.”

The new ingredients

WholeCran, a stable, free-flowing whole cranberry powder produced using a specialized drying process, has a guaranteed 4% proanthocyanidins.

ElderCraft High-Fiber organic, described as an enhanced version of its popular ElderCraft product, is an IPT-enriched elderberry extract with elderberry pomace resulting in a 100% elderberry high-fiber extract.

“WholeCran and ElderCraft are both in ongoing clinical studies, with other studies on several other ingredients currently in development,” a spokesperson for the company told us. “We look forward to sharing our research. Artemis prioritizes science substantiation and advancing the research of berries and botanicals.”

The spokesperson added that Artemis berry powders and extracts have always been popular in tablets, capsules, liquids and gummies but that the company has seen a recent uptick in formulation into powder tubs, stick packs, teas and RTD beverages.

“A more recent development—pet foods, treats and supplements," they added. “As pet parents are seeking healthier solutions for their dogs, cats, horses, birds, etc., we are working with manufacturers on their pet formulas.

The company also announced two additions to its ACE Blends range: ACEPlus and ACEMax, which combine the benefits of multiple high-antioxidant polyphenol-rich berries in a single convenient ingredient. Both ACE blends contain a powerful base of berry extracts—aronia extract to support cardiovascular health, elderberry extract for immune support and acerola cherry for immune-boosting Vitamin C. ACEPlus also includes cranberry extract, while ACEMax incorporates a tart cherry extract.
