NutraWomen Wednesday: Mandy McCarthy, CMO, Trace Minerals

Mandy McCarthy, chief marketing officer at Trace Minerals, has spent much of her career transforming health topics into powerful marketing campaigns. Her psychology background proved invaluable in understanding consumer behavior, leading to disruptive campaigns that weren’t afraid to tackle taboo subjects like digestive health.

Reflecting on how marketing has evolved over the years, especially in terms of women’s health, McCarthy said consumers are now being exposed to topics that were never openly discussed until recently, thanks largely to social media.

“I think it’s normalization of a conversation,” she said. “I think as you find it more showing up on social media with people just talking about it openly, it’s become more mainstream, and those subjects are no longer taboo.”

As a triathlete herself, McCarthy brings unique insights into athlete nutrition and supplementation needs. She highlights the crucial knowledge gap between elite athletes and everyday fitness enthusiasts, particularly regarding mineral supplementation.

As the newly appointed CMO of Trace Minerals, McCarthy is aiming to make mineral supplementation as common as taking daily vitamins.

“I want to make Trace Minerals a household name,” she said.

“There’s so much opportunity with this brand. It’s relatively small right now, but we’re focused on mineral supplementation. Now, everybody knows you need to take a multivitamin, but not that many people know you need to take a multimineral as well, so we’re really on the forefront of educating consumers around mineral supplementation.”
