Hydration and electrolyte support brand Electrolyte Boost just announced the closing of a venture development deal with Sterling Select Group LLC and a simultaneous closing of its seed round from Sterling Select’s partners. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Electrolyte Boost has set itself apart in the hydration space by offering a unique waterless electrolyte delivery system that allows athletes to stay hydrated without the burden of carrying a water bottle. The formulation features a combination of electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium, along with vitamins and other ingredients to aid in hydration and energy. The hero ingredient is nootropic Cognizin, a patented form of citicoline that is clinically proven to enhance mental performance, concentration, attention and memory.

“Electrolyte Boost’s ground-breaking waterless electrolyte replenishment and functional nutrition solutions are not just category-defining, they fit perfectly across many market segments where the consumer seeks both physical and mental performance, as well as incredible recovery,” said Christopher J. Steele, Managing Partner at Sterling Select and former NCAA Division I swimmer at Cornell University. “We have already tested the products with athletes of all ages and levels, military and first responders, as well as the medical profession, where carrying bulky liquid containers is just not feasible. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.”

“Science definitely played a role,” said Susan Kleiner, RD, PhD, chief science officer, Electrolyte Boost. “Electrolyte Boost is built on innovation: from waterless delivery to our hero ingredients and formula blends. The additional formulations we are working on continue to fall within the areas of interest for the Sterling group.”

Beyond funding

Sterling Select offers a venture development approach that goes beyond funding – providing a full-service platform for market traction, brand development and long-term success. The fresh funds will also allow Electrolyte Boost to expand its retail and direct-to-consumer footprint and help market the product in key markets, such as sports, gaming, healthcare and the defense industries.

“The relationship with Sterling provides not only access to capital, which of course is vital for all early stage companies, but their tentacles in sports, entertainment and relevant adjacent industries provides access for distribution as well, not to mention the years of operational experience,” Gary Kleinman, founder and CEO of Electrolyte Boost, told NutraIngredients.

Kleinman added that Sterling Select has a powerful network across sports, media, healthcare, entertainment and technology that they hope to tap into.
