The company said the product’s science and X factor are what tipped the scale.

In the specialty category, Caronositol Fertility, from Biosearch Life, a Kerry Company, won in our newest category, Innovations in Women's Health.

As products and ingredients aimed at improving women’s health continue to increase, all eyes are on this booming sector, including NutraIngredients-USA. The new award sought to recognize innovators with the best ingredients or products to promote women’s health, research projects specifically benefiting female health and wellness, and women-led start-ups.

“NutraIngredients-USA created this new award category for its 2022 competition to recognize innovators with the best ingredients or products to promote women’s health—particularly for conditions that affect women’s ability to reach their reproductive goals. Caronositol Fertility, from Biosearch Life, a Kerry Company, helps improve the fertility rate in women suffering from infertility issues associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Because PCOS can have a profound impact on fertility and on women’s overall health, finding solutions for managing it can greatly improve the quality of life for women and their families,” explained Izaskun Montsalve, Kerry Women’s and Infant Health Marketing Manager.

Science wins

As with all of our winners, the science behind the submissions is what judges pore over the most.

Caronositol Fertility is a plant-based solution backed by solid scientific evidence including:

  • Increased pregnancy rates of +153%
  • Decreased miscarriage rates of -170%
  • Improved live-birth rate of 272%
  • Improved ovocytes quality
  • Reduced risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)

Montsalve told NutraIngredients-USA that in order for an ingredient to be considered an innovator, it must have the ‘X factor’ – something that makes it stand out from the crowd and edge out the competition, but it also must include evidence to back up claims. Such evidence includes the ability to demonstrate a unique nutritional solution to the need or problem – including peer reviewed data to back up any performance or health claims made as well as evidence that the product works for its specified use.

“In addition to the research supporting it, Caronositol Fertility provides women suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) with innovative and natural help for one of the most psychologically and physically demanding challenges they face,” added Montsalve.

Indeed, the judges applauded the compelling research and noted that syndrome (PCOS) affects 1 in 10 women of childbearing age and disproportionately affects Black women. This
is an important issue that we wanted to shine a light on

Benefits of winning

“The NutraIngredients-USA Awards are a great way for companies and people to showcase their hard work and achievements within the industry. Winning a prestigious NutraIngredients-USA Award can highlight the visibility of the ingredient, and provide education and proof points for manufacturers considering creating products by formulating with the ingredient,” said Montsalve. “Kerry is delighted to have been the first-ever winner in this inaugural category. We appreciate NutraIngredients-USA’s recognition of the innovation and science behind Carinositol Fertility.”
