The COVID-19 has led to new habits that are here to stay, including taking supplements that benefit the immune system, according to P&G and Holista Colltech.

In the latest episode of our Nutrition Asia video series, we hear how both companies launched new immune-related supplements late last year, with vitamin D a common ingredient in their products.

“Across the region, P&G is seeing a very strong demand for the immune supplement category…We believe this trend is here to stay, because we see that for some of the habits that have changed, we see them as ‘sticky’ and consumers want to stay with these healthier habits,” said Aalok Agrawal, Senior Vice-President, P&G - Personal Healthcare (Asia, India, Middle East & Africa).

Malaysia-headquartered Holista Colltech is also expecting the demand for immune health supplements – ranging from vitamins, botanicals-based to persist.

“For immune health related products, the demand is spiking and is higher now…Whether they are vitamins or herbal supplements formulations or adaptogens, the demand is spiking so I think this is not going away post-COVID-19,” Dr Rajen Manicka, Managing Director and CEO, Holista Colltech said.

For P&G, the company launched its first vitamin product under the brand Vicks in Philippines.

Known as Immune Defense, this is a 3-in-1 capsule containing 500mg of vitamin C, 10mg of zinc, and 1000 IU of vitamin D.

Holista Colltech, on the other hand, launched a water-soluble vitamin D drop known as HydroD in Malaysia last year.

The recommended dosage is 20 drops per day, which is equivalent to 400 IU of vitamin D.

Both companies also discussed the potential directions and ingredients for future product development.
