French ingredients supplier Nexira is to acquire UNIPEKTIN Ingredients in a deal that taps into the firm’s diversification strategy, which places boosted health and nutrition activity front-and-centre of its plans.

The buy now adds to Nexira’s expanding portfolio with the inclusion of UNIPEKTIN’s sugar beet fibres and pectin for use in nutraceutical applications that address digestive health, cholesterol and diabetes.

“After a successful diversification, providing a wide range of premium and branded botanical extracts to the health and nutrition markets, we are affirming our external growth strategy with the acquisition of a 100% equity interest in UNIPEKTIN Ingredients,” says Mathieu Dondain, Nexira General Manager.

“This new acquisition consolidates our position as an undisputed and independent world leader in natural ingredients for Food and Nutrition.”

Boost to Health division

Nexira’s acquisition also represents ongoing support for its Health division, which posted strong growth in the company’s latest financial report.

The firm’s turnover for the year approached €130m ($150m), a 4% increase year on year, bolstered by an 18% increase in revenue of the Health division, which reached €35.4m ($40.9m).

Along with the division’s product offerings for categories such as immunity, digestive health, slimming and stress management, the firm has also acquired more than 16,000 sq. feet of additional production facilities for its Lamothe industrial plant.

In addition, the production capacity of Serqueux, the world’s largest acacia gum processing unit, has been increased to reach nearly 30,000 tons per year.

Commenting on the deal,  Robert Ackermann, member of the board of directors of Switzerland-based UNIPEKTIN Ingredients says, “This is an excellent opportunity to provide UNIPEKTIN Ingredients with enhanced international exposure, highly skilled customer service, and expanded recognition for reliable sourcing.”
