New Chapter launches line with 'first of its kind' multiherbal blends in one capsule

New Chapter recently debuted a line of organic multiherbal supplements to complement the necessary multivitamins people take every day. The company said the multiherbal blend in one capsule is the first of its kind. 

Formulation

Charlotte Traas, director of sales education & training at New Chapter, told NutraIngredients-USA​ that when it came to selecting ingredients, the team paired tradition with science. 

“When we formulate, we first look at the long traditional history of herbalism, with roots in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. After we find areas we are interested in exploring, we validate our choices with science. Clinical testing on key ingredients with specific deliverable dosages is our way of connecting the science behind the ingredients with our customer’s expectations of the product." ​Traas added, “Our herbalist on staff looks for ingredients that have complementary activity to achieve the main goal of supporting the clinically studied main ingredient. We look to research and scientific literature to validate our theories and help us generate a final formula. Many herbs in these formulas are considered herbal ‘tonics,’ meaning they have a broader balancing impact within the body. The herbs contribute to the overall intent of the formula."​

Sourcing ingredients

Traas said they source ingredients from locations all over the world based on how well they grow. For example, their ashwagandha and turmeric come from India, while their rhodiola is from Siberia.

“We believe in sourcing ingredients from where they grow best. This means sourcing from indigenous environments where the plant traditionally grows best. Every ingredient has different places where the weather, soil and environment contribute to the virility of the plant. All of our ingredients are then evaluated to make sure that they are hitting high quality standards to make sure the plants not only look vital, but are nutritionally dense, as well.”​

In order to ensure there are no antagonistic effects, Traas told us that they enlist multiple scientific professionals including toxicologists, who are on hand to evaluate their formulas for safety.

“New Chapter has been a leader in establishing new, breakthrough approaches to evaluating botanical safety without the use of traditional animal testing and has been involved in the publication of numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles on these approaches so that they can be broadly applied by others in the industry.” ​

The team also includes herbalists, nutritionists, and microbiologist experts.
