GPA adds members, makes key hire
The Global Prebiotic Association (GPA) has announced the addition of four new members and has added staff.

GPA was founded recently to further the interests of this category of ingredients. It joins other newly minted ingredient associations that use the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) as a model. These include the Natural Algae Astaxanthin Association (NAXA), the CoQ10 Association and the most recent: the Vitamin K2 Association.

GPA executive director Len Monheit (Monheit also heads the K2 group) said four new members have been added to the organization’s roster. He also announced a key hire: Dietitian Kara Landau, CEO of functional food startup Uplift Food, will serve as media representative and nutrition advisor. Landau will contribute content to the organization’s website and will handle some speaking duties.

Key hire

“Kara’s passion and commitment to helping build the prebiotics category is unmatched and we are excited to have her on our team. Her scientific background coupled with her ability to put information in laymen’s terms will help us achieve our objectives of elevating prebiotics’ profile,” said Monheit.

The new members are:

  • Prenexus Health: Prenexus Health is a manufacturer of a prebiotic ingredient sourced from non GMO high fiber sugar cane.
  • Hayashibara (NAGASE Group): Founded as a starch syrup manufacture in 1883, Hayashibara has grown into a company with strong research and development expertise, engaging in original and creative research. In 2012, Hayashibara joined NAGASE Group.
  • Nutrasource: Established in 2002, Nutrasource is a full-service contract research organization (CRO) specializing in regulatory consulting, clinical trials and product testing for the natural health industry.
  • KGK Science: KGK Science integrates scientific, clinical research, commercial, and regulatory expertise to deliver well designed solutions for propelling health and wellness products to market.
