Cardium Therapeutics, a San Diego-based company, has acquired To Go Brands, a marketer of supplements in the natural and mass channels in an all-stock deal to support its ongoing expansion in the nutraceutical realm, the company announced recently.

To Go Brands’ product line includes nutraceutical powder mixes, supplements and chews to support healthy lifestyles. The product line contains 100% natural antioxidant-rich drink mixes with organic ingredients, in convenient stick packs, designed to pour directly into a water bottle, mix packages for home use and capsule-based dietary supplements. Its distribution footprint includes Whole Foods Markets, CVS and Kroger stores. To Go Brands recorded $1.7 million in sales in the first six months of 2012.

Cardium, which has biotech and pharmaceutical product lines, also has a nutraceutical platform called MedPodium Nutra Apps, which is a line of supplements packaged in single-serving blister packs targeted primarily at Gen Y consumers. “Our acquisition of To Go Brands is focused on building Cardium's MedPodium in-house brand platform and health sciences business,” said Christopher J. Reinhard, CEO of Cardium.
