UAS Labs’ Dr Dash to outline probiotic selection criteria at probiotic conference

Genetic techniques and in vitro testing should form the basis of all probiotic selection testing, says UAS Labs Dr S.K. Dash, ahead of a the upcoming International Probiotic Conference 2012 in San Antonio, Texas.

The founder of the Eden Prairie, MN-based company will address  the functional qualities of probiotics relate to the specific strain of micro-organism and the production and handling of the probiotic. 

Strain identification using genetic techniques and in vitro testing to establish probiotic qualities like acid and bile resistance, resistance to digestive enzymes, adherence to human epithelial cells, potential anti-microbial activity, affect on immune cytokines and sensitivity to common antibiotics will be addressed, said the company.

Stabilization techniques to ensure viability of probiotics throughout the supply chain along with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and considerations for condition-specific probiotic blends will also be discussed. 

The International Probiotic Conference 2012 will take place in San Antonio, Texas on November 19-21.
