Pontiakos: FDA is doing a fine job
George Pontiakos, the president and chief executive officer of California-based, BI Nutraceuticals, tells Shane Starling why he thinks the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should get more credit than it does.

He explains why the FDA is undeserving of much of the criticism it attracts for the manner in which it administrates the Dietary Supplements and Health Education Act (DSHEA).

Pontiakos believes the regulator is one of the best-funded government organizations after the military, and more than capable of meeting its remit in the dietary supplements area.

Marquee brands have also played their part in ensuring self-policing initiatives are there to contain the excesses of rogue players that have the potential to damage the whole sector.
