A new iPhone application is designed to help users with diabetes management by providing nutritional information for over 50,000 food products and 500 brands.

The interactive tool – Track3 iPhone App – allows consumers to record health details throughout the day, with the aim of helping them to keep their blood sugar stable.

Launched this week by California-based Coheso, the tool taps into the growing field of interactive shopping aids that guide consumers to the right choices depending on their health profile.

Tracking diet

Track3, which is priced at $7.99, works by logging when and what the user ate. It tracks glucose levels and insulin intake, as well as medications and exercise. Information can be customized to specific serving sizes.

This data is processed to monitor insulin requirements.

The new iPhone application also stores medical record information and allows users to print reports for their doctors, said Coheso.

Diabetes and weight control

It is one of a number of interactive applications introduced by the firm, which allow consumers to track different aspects of their diets. Another tool – the CalorieSmart iPhone App, launched last month – is tailored for weight loss and allows consumers to look up nutritional information about different products.

Coheso’s health management devices use the firm’s database of nutrition labels, which tracks nutritional information for over 75,000 food products sold in the United States.
