DSM courts academia with Science Awards
Manfred Eggersdorfer, director of research and development at DSM Nutritional Products, sat down with Shane Starling to discuss the value of open innovation and business/academia interaction after the 2009 DSM Science and Technology Awards in Switzerland recently.

Eggersdorfer explains how the awards do a lot more than just give young scientists financial reward and recognition, as they affirm and publicise the Dutch ingredient giant’s commitment to scientific endeavour.

“It is important for us that we develop networks with academia,”​ said Eggersdorfer.

He noted a potential application of the nanotechnology researched by the Swiss-based winner, Alexandra Teleki, PhD, was tackling widespread iron deficiency by fortifying rice products.
