Anti-aging water could hit US shelves, says Frutarom
The ingredient is the first to result from a recently signed agreement with France-based company Copalis, which specializes in marine-based ingredients for health, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.
Collactive, which is composed of marine collagen and elastin peptides, is designed to minimize fine lines and wrinkles whilst improving skin hydration.
US behind but growing
Already incorporated into beauty from within products on the European market, Frutarom has high hopes for the ingredient in the US where interest is growing in edible beauty.
“Beauty from within is something very new in the US but it is growing fast. Although it is a few years behind Europe and Asia we are seeing a lot of demand from both dietary supplement manufacturers and cosmetic companies,” said Frutarom’s Laurent Leduc.
Frutarom has several ingredients in the beauty form within portfolio but this is the first to target the anti-aging market directly, he said.
As the ingredient is colorless, soluble and virtually tasteless, the potential applications are wide, Leduc explained.
“It has big potential not only in capsules but also in functional foods. Here in the US we have water enriched with vitamins but now we can imagine a beauty water.”
Collactive – the first of many
The company will be bringing other ingredients from Copalis to the US market throughout the year, covering nutrition, health and cosmetics applications.
Although at present the two companies have entered into a distribution agreement, the possibility of collaboration in research and development has not been ruled out.
“We are open to expand the agreement if we see there is a market for it,” said Leduc.
He also mentioned future plans for a line of skin health ingredients for topical applications that Frutarom will be releasing later in the spring.
