A round up of the latest new appointments in the supplements and
functional foods industries.

Zila​ has appointed Bernie Landes​ as vice president and general manager - a role in which he will lead the company into a new phase of growth, as it grows its customer base in the US and internationally. Landes' most recent position in a distinguished career spanning the supplement, nutraceutical, personal care, food and environmental industries has as president of Nutritional Products Group.

He called Zila's Ester-C "the industry's most successful branded vitamin C product"​, and said: "When I think of the market potential of combining new product opportunities with entry into some of the world's largest supplement markets, I envision tremendous growth of marketshare for Zila."

Neptune Technologies​, the Canadian company making waves with nutritional products extracted from marine biomasses, has created the new position of vice president sales and marketing, and appointed Donald Allard​ to fill it.

Allard trained as a hospital pharmacist and has years of clinical practice in a university hospital. He has more than 15 years experience in sales and marketing of pharmaceutical products, including for obesity, diabetes and hyperlipidemia.

"Neptune is at an exciting time in its development,"​ he said. "With a world-class natural product that has proven health benefits, strong partnerships and a solid management team, Neptune is well positioned for tremendous growth."

Raw materials supplier BI Nutraceuticals​ has strengthened its sales force with the recruitment of Dennis Flynn​ as eastern regional sales manager and the promotions of Matt Phillips​ to vice president, marketing and sales, Americas/Europe and Mike Swenson​ to vice president, global sourcing.

Novel Ingredient Services​, supplier of botanical and nutraceutical raw materials, has also increased its sales team with two new account managers: Fred Mosier​ and Eddie Horn​.

The company said that the appointments are a sign of its continuing growth.

Minnesota Applied Research Center​, a clinical research facility, has also bolstered its capabilities with three new appointments: Karin Westberg​, MS, RD/LD as a registered dietitian, Christine Madson​, MAEd, CCRC as a certified clinical research coordinator and Timothy Busian​ as a research assistant.

Dr David Baker has been announced as the new president of Omega Biotech Corporation, on the retirement of Murray Persicke, who has completed his three-year mandate.

Persicke will continue working for the company in his role as business affairs officer.
