A month before SupplySide West opens its doors, ingredients
companies are drawing attention to the products they will be
showcasing in Las Vegas.

For DSM, the event is an opportunity to raise industry awareness of PeptoPro, its fast-absorption protein hydrolysate peptide mixture.

PeptoPro has already achieved significant success in Europe; in 2004 it received the most innovative health ingredient award at Health Ingredients Europe. Irish drinks group Cantrell & Cochrance was keen to put this innovation to good use, choosing PeptoPro as the key ingredient in its Club Energise Sport Recovery 20 beverage.

Launched in the US earlier this year and given a marketing boost with DSM the official sponsor of the 2005 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City in January, PeptoPro is said to eliminate many of the technical and physiological effects of proteins and protein hydrolysates.

"We are exploring its performance, functionality, efficacy and application in many areas including the soft drinks, youth and elderly markets," said global sales and marketing director Stefan Siebrecht.

Meanwhile, Bioriginal will be creating a buzz about its high-load nutritional oils, now available in powder form for a wider range of applications including tablets, two piece capsules, sports drinks, nutritional bars, functional foods, pastries and pet foods. With a minimum 50 percent oil pay-load, they combine high-level functionality with good stability, says the company, and are cold-water dispersible.

Bioriginal's essential fatty acid oils had their first outing at Vitafoods in Geneva in April.

New Zealand company HortResearch is exhibiting at SupplySide West for the first time this year in order to build international relationships in the fields of fresh fruit and food science. In particular, it will be talking to potential partners about the health benefits of berries, since it is currently developing new blueberry cultivars with higher levels of antioxidants.

"Our company has invested significantly in its knowledge and science capability to drive competitive advantage in new lifestyle, wellness and therapeutic target markets for the food industry," said HortResearch's US business leader Dr Gavin Ross.

"Our research programs cover a wide range of food and health areas including, bioactive analysis, natural flavors and fragrances, and consumer and sensory science."
