BASF plant earns food safety accolade

BASF invited in the American Institute of Baking (AIB) to audit
various production facilities and scored 910 out of a possible 1000
points for food safety at its calpan plant in Ludwigshafen,
Germany.

The results means the plant has been classified as 'superior', the highest possible rating, by the auditor, which evaluates safety and quality at every stage of the food chain.

It assesses adherence to good management principles, such as those set out in EU Directive 93/43/EEC, Codex Alimenarius and the US Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, according to adequacy of the food safety program, pest control, operational methods and maintenance for food safety and cleaning practices.

The chemical giant's vitamin C production plants in Grenaa, Denmark and Hikari, Japan, were also rated as 'excellent', as was its new vitamin B2 plant in Gunsan, Korea.
