Amino Vital goes Pro

Ajinomoto USA has added a pepped-up version of its amino acid
sports supplement Amino Vital to its books.

Amino Vital Pro uses the same amino acid science that is behind the other Amino Vital powder and ready-to-drink supplements.

However, as Arthur Gallego, a spokesman for the company, told NutraIngredientsUSA.com, the new drink has double the amount of amino acids than the original drink: 3600 mg of the combination of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) and arginine, compared to the usual 1800 mg.

The supplement is aimed at those wanting to carry out tough workouts and is supposed to help before and after the training with muscle growth and fatigue. The product is being marketed by professional sports people, but Gallego noted that anybody who is "serious about working out" could use the product, such as an amateur athlete training for a marathon.

The product has been trialed in-house in Japan, but no external studies using the product have yet been carried out. The company is planning new studies, but they too are likely to be undertaken in-house in the Amino Vital Foundation, which is currently being set up. Gallego, though, would not rule out the possibility of certain trials being carried out in conjunction with US universities.

He added that the foundation was scheduled to open in the next four to six months and would probably see the light of day in New York as Ajinomoto USA is relocating from New Jersey to Manhattan.

The product is being distributed in North America through GNC and will later be on sale by Vitamin World. It is available in a fruit punch flavor.
