Cerestar Food & Pharma Specialties Europe has expanded its
portfolio to include the marketing and distribution of Cargill's
soy products in Europe.

The range of soy flour, textured soy protein and soy isolate were previously available in Europe through Cargill's Soy Protein Solutions.

Mark Wastijn, marketing director of Cerestar Food & Pharma Specialties Europe, says customers using soy ingredients will now be able to benefit from the firm's pan-European sales and support network and technical expertise.

The growing popularity of high protein diets in Europe have increased demand for soy proteins in meat replacement products as well as low-carb versions of mainstream foods.

There is also continued growth in demand for soy's health properties, which include its effect on lowering cholesterol.

According to a recent consumer survey, the consumption of soy and dairy beverages in Western Europe grew by 20 per cent in 2002, compared to the previous year.
